Today in History, December 16, 1773: The event we know as the Boston Tea Party.

 
The deadline by which the tax on the three ships’ tea cargo must be paid was midnight. After Francis Rotch’s request that the ships be allowed to return to England without unloading their cargo or paying the tax is denied, Samuel Adams announces “This meeting can do nothing more to save our country!”
